Hypergryph has finally taken the wraps off Arknights: Endfield, and the numbers speak for themselves. The studio's ambitious 3D spin-off launched worldwide on January 22, 2026, arriving on Windows PC alongside PlayStation 5 and mobile after years of closed technical tests. By launch day it had racked up more than 35 million pre-registrations and briefly sat at number two on the iOS free chart, a debut that puts it in the upper tier of 2026's live-service releases.

If you know Arknights only as a 2D tower-defense gacha, Endfield is a very different animal. This is a full real-time action RPG built around a four-member squad, with a combo skill system that lets you swap between characters mid-fight to chain abilities together. Combat is fast and readable, and it is easily the part most reviewers latched onto at launch.

Not Just Another Action RPG

The twist that sets Endfield apart is its base layer. Between combat encounters you build and automate factories across a semi-open world, laying conveyor belts, wiring up production chains and optimizing output in a way that draws obvious comparisons to Factorio. It is an unusual pairing, and the game leans into it hard. Critics generally praised the visuals and the moment-to-moment combat, landing Endfield a Metacritic score around 78 and a "mostly positive" reception, though some felt the factory-building did not tie tightly enough into core character progression yet.

That is the kind of feedback Hypergryph is well placed to act on. The team has a long track record of aggressive post-launch support on the original Arknights, and Endfield's roadmap of new operators, story chapters and endgame content is where the game will live or die over the coming year.

A Bumpy but Well-Handled Opening Week

The launch was not flawless. A PayPal integration bug caused some unauthorized charges in the opening days, but Hypergryph moved quickly to issue refunds and address it, which blunted what could have been a nasty PR story. For a launch of this scale, a fast, transparent fix is about the best outcome you can ask for.

What matters now is momentum. Endfield combines genuinely enjoyable squad combat with a sci-fi setting that feels distinct in a crowded gacha market, and the base-building hook gives it a longer tail than most action RPGs manage. Whether the factory systems evolve into a true pillar of progression, rather than a pleasant side activity, is the big open question heading into the first major content season.

The good news for newcomers is that there has rarely been a better time to jump in. The servers are stable, the launch event rewards are flowing, and the early roster is generous. If you want to see what all the pre-registration fuss was about, you can Play Arknights: Endfield free on PC and dive straight into the frontier. On Windows it runs smoothly, and cross-progression means your account travels with you if you later pick it up elsewhere.
